Joe Fioti

Joe Fioti is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Luminal, a Y Combinator-backed artificial intelligence infrastructure startup based in San Francisco, California. He brings 10 years of professional experience in systems and machine learning engineering, having previously developed production software for CPU microcode and machine learning accelerators as an engineer at Intel. Before launching his current venture, Fioti held technical roles at Lockheed Martin, led early-stage technology startups including Sidekick AI and General Cognition, and served as an adjunct lecturer at Penn State. Between July 2023 and March 2025, he actively contributed to the open-source dfdx Rust deep-learning library by implementing core tensor, matrix multiplication, and broadcast operations. His current work focuses on building specialized tooling to transition machine learning prototypes into production environments by automatically generating optimized GPU kernels to accelerate deep learning models.
