Jennifer Levin Carter, MD, MBA, is a distinguished Managing Director at Sandbox Industries, a venture capital firm known for building and managing venture funds for corporations. At Sandbox Industries, Dr. Carter spearheads the Blue Venture Fund, a strategic corporate venture fund backed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies. Dr. Carter's investment strategy through the Blue Venture Fund is keenly focused on identifying and supporting early to growth stage companies that are developing solutions to improve healthcare quality, increase access to care, and make healthcare more affordable. Her areas of interest span a wide range of healthcare technology and services, including digital health, value-based care models, population health management, care coordination platforms, patient engagement tools, and advanced data analytics in healthcare. Her unique perspective as both a physician and an investor allows her to deeply understand the clinical and operational challenges within healthcare, guiding her to back solutions with real-world impact.

Before her tenure at Sandbox Industries, Dr. Carter built an impressive career blending medicine, entrepreneurship, and venture capital. A board-certified internal medicine physician, she earned her MD from Harvard Medical School and completed her residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to co-found and serve as CEO of Nuvon, Inc., a company that developed innovative technology for medical device integration, which was later acquired by Healthvision. Following the acquisition, she held leadership roles at Healthvision as VP of Clinical Informatics and later as VP of Strategic Marketing at McKesson, a global leader in healthcare information technology and services. Dr. Carter also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from Yale University, further solidifying her strong foundation in both business and healthcare.

Through the Blue Venture Fund, Dr. Carter has been instrumental in supporting numerous successful healthcare ventures. While specific individual investments are part of the fund's portfolio, notable companies that have received backing under her leadership include Omada Health, a leading digital care program for chronic conditions; Buoy Health, an AI-powered health assistant; and Livongo, a pioneer in applied health signals that was acquired by Teladoc Health.
