Jairaj Sethi

Jairaj Sethi is the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Substack, based in San Francisco, California. Alongside co-founders Chris Best and Hamish McKenzie, he established the newsletter publishing platform in 2017, which has since secured over $80 million in venture capital funding from firms including Andreessen Horowitz. In his current capacity, he oversees the engineering and product development for a platform that processes millions of paid subscriptions globally and recently expanded its infrastructure to support the Substack Notes social feed in 2023. Prior to this venture, Sethi spent over five years at the messaging application Kik Interactive, where he served as Head of Platform and Principal Developer. He holds a Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo. His career centers on developing scalable software architecture and technical infrastructure for the digital publishing sector.
