Ingrid van Welie

Ingrid van Welie is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Torpedo Therapeutics, a venture-backed medical device startup based in Boston. As a neuroscientist and biophysicist holding a doctorate, she specializes in neural engineering and the development of high-precision neuromodulation technology for clinical applications. She established Torpedo Therapeutics in 2018, later guiding the five-person enterprise through the Y Combinator accelerator program as part of its Winter 2022 batch. The company focuses on engineering implantable hardware subject to Food and Drug Administration regulations, specifically designed to sense and modulate the electrical properties of neurons. Prior to her current venture, she was also affiliated with Neural Dynamics Technologies, contributing as a researcher and developer. Her ongoing focus remains on commercializing next-generation deep brain stimulation systems to treat severe neurological conditions such as Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, and epilepsy.
