In 2016, Rauch and his team created Next.js, a React framework that introduced server-side rendering, static site generation, and a file-based routing system that dramatically simplified building production-grade web applications. The framework solved real pain points that React developers faced: SEO, performance, routing, and build tooling were all handled out of the box.

Next.js quickly became the most popular React framework in the world, adopted by companies including Netflix, TikTok, Hulu, Nike, the Washington Post, and thousands of startups. The framework's app router, server components, and edge rendering capabilities pushed the boundaries of what was possible on the web. As of 2024, Vercel has grown to over $150 million in annual recurring revenue and achieved a valuation exceeding $3.5 billion after raising from top-tier investors including Accel, GV, Bedrock Capital, and CRV. The company employs over 450 people and serves hundreds of thousands of developers and teams worldwide.

Rauch's philosophy centers on a few core beliefs: the web should be fast by default, developer experience directly determines product quality, and open source creates better software than proprietary alternatives.
