Edward Hinson is the cofounder of Zephyr Fusion, a startup developing in-orbit fusion power systems. He brings over 20 years of professional experience in mathematical modeling and experimental plasma physics to the commercial space sector. Previously, Hinson served as a research scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and conducted advanced research at Lawrence Livermore National Labs and the DIII-D National Fusion Facility. He earned a PhD in Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he first collaborated with cofounder Galen Burke in 2010 to operate a spherical tokamak. His scientific contributions include multiple peer-reviewed publications in prominent academic journals such as Physical Review Letters, Nuclear Fusion, and Physics of Plasmas. Hinson currently focuses on leveraging his extensive background in experimental plasma physics to advance commercial fusion energy generation for space applications.
