David Karp

David Karp is a technology entrepreneur and the Founder of Tumblr based in New York City. Before launching his flagship microblogging platform in 2007, he served as the head of product at the parenting message board UrbanBaby and established the software consultancy Davidville. Under his leadership as Chief Executive Officer, Tumblr scaled to host hundreds of millions of user blogs before Yahoo! acquired the company for approximately $1.1 billion in 2013. Karp continued to manage the platform's operations through its subsequent integration into Verizon, ultimately resigning from his executive position in November 2017 before the network was later sold to Automattic. His background centers on consumer internet infrastructure and web development, having transitioned from a self-taught teenage programmer who dropped out of high school into the architect of a major social media network.
