Daria Balatsky

Daria Balatsky is a physical chemist and the Co-founder and Chemist at Alga Biosciences, operating out of the San Francisco Bay Area in California. She established the climate technology startup in 2021 to develop proprietary algae-based feed additives specifically designed to reduce enteric methane emissions from commercial cattle populations. Under her technical leadership, the biotechnology company participated in the Y Combinator Winter 2022 batch and subsequently secured seed venture capital funding to scale its proprietary chemistry. Prior to her entrepreneurial career in the agriculture technology sector, Balatsky worked as a PhD candidate focusing on the synthesis of pharmaceutical therapeutics for kidney disease and the study of quantum materials. Her current professional focus centers on applying this academic background in synthetic chemistry and materials science to commercialize sustainable, scalable biotechnology solutions for the broader agricultural industry.
