Christian Timmerer is the Chief Innovation Officer and Co-Founder of Bitmovin and an Associate Professor at Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, based in Klagenfurt, Austria. Alongside co-founder Stefan Lederer, he established the Y Combinator-backed global video streaming infrastructure startup to commercialize his academic research on the MPEG-DASH standard. Under his technical leadership, Bitmovin has secured over $60 million in total venture funding, including a $25 million Series C financing round in 2021, and received a prestigious Technology & Engineering Emmy Award. In his academic capacity, Timmerer holds a doctorate degree in computer science and has authored hundreds of peer-reviewed publications while directing the ATHENA Christian Doppler Laboratory since its inception in 2019. His ongoing work focuses on bridging academic computer science research with scalable commercial enterprise applications in adaptive bitrate streaming, video encoding, and multimedia quality of experience.
