Chris Nicholson is an active pre-seed and seed investor based in San Francisco, California. Before entering the technology sector in 2013, he spent eight years working as a business and technology journalist for The New York Times and Bloomberg News in Paris. He initially transitioned into the Silicon Valley ecosystem as an early team member at the Y Combinator-backed wealth management platform FutureAdvisor. Nicholson subsequently founded the artificial intelligence startup Skymind, which participated in Y Combinator's Winter 2016 cohort, later rebranded as the machine learning platform Pathmind, and was ultimately acquired by Clipboard Health. Prior to his professional career, he was raised in Montana, attended Deep Springs College, and studied Zen Buddhism at the Tassajara monastery. His current investment strategy focuses on early-stage startup opportunities across the artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep tech, and biotechnology sectors.
