Avneet Ghotra

Avneet Ghotra is the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of ALT TEX, a venture-backed biomaterials startup which is currently based in Toronto, Canada. She established the enterprise in 2020 alongside co-founder Myra Arshad to engineer a proprietary manufacturing technology that converts industrial food waste into biodegradable textiles. Under her technical leadership, the ten-person company participated in the Y Combinator Summer 2022 batch, raised $2.3 million in venture funding, and secured $1 million in pilot letters of intent. Prior to leaving medical school to pursue climate technology, she earned a 2018 Bachelor of Science in environmental science and biochemistry from the University of Toronto Mississauga and founded the plastic pollution non-profit Approaching Zero. Her current professional focus centers on scaling circular economy solutions to replace synthetic polyester fabrics and reduce the global fashion industry's carbon emissions.
