Ali Afshar

Ali Afshar is the CEO and Co-Founder of Mytos, a biotechnology hardware company based in London, England. He holds a PhD in Materials Science from Imperial College London, where he developed multidisciplinary expertise at the intersection of physics, chemistry, hardware engineering, and software development. Afshar previously led the startup through the Y Combinator Winter 2018 batch under its original name, Cytera CellWorks, before successfully scaling its automated mammalian cell culture machines for major global pharmaceutical clients. Under his executive leadership, Mytos secured a $19 million Series A funding round led by Buckley Ventures in December 2023 to accelerate the manufacturing and deployment of its laboratory automation systems. As a scientist and engineer, his current focus remains on bridging fundamental scientific discoveries with integrated engineering solutions to commercialize advanced life sciences technology and automate complex laboratory processes.
