Key people at Target ALS.
Target ALS was founded in 2013 by Dan Doctoroff (Founder & Board Chair).
Target ALS is a non-profit organization focused on accelerating the discovery and development of effective treatments for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). It achieves this by fostering an Innovation Ecosystem that breaks down traditional research barriers, providing essential resources such as human postmortem tissue, multi-omic datasets, and cell lines to researchers globally, free from intellectual property restrictions and at minimal cost. This collaborative model integrates academic, industry, and governmental efforts to streamline scientific progress.
The organization was founded in 2013 by Dan Doctoroff, motivated by a profound personal connection to ALS after his father and uncle succumbed to the disease, and his own diagnosis in 2021. Doctoroff, previously New York City’s Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Rebuilding and CEO of Bloomberg LP, leveraged his background in large-scale initiatives to establish an urgent, results-driven approach to scientific collaboration and resource sharing.
Target ALS primarily supports a broad community of scientists, researchers, clinicians, and pharmaceutical industry partners engaged in ALS investigation. Its overarching vision is "a world where Everyone Lives," working towards a future where a robust pipeline of effective therapies transforms the trajectory of ALS for all those affected.
