Sumitomo Ventures operates as the venture capital arm of Sumitomo Corporation, actively engaging in strategic investments in early-stage companies. Specifically, Sumisho Venture Partners, established as its domestic Corporate Venture Capital unit, focuses on supporting nascent businesses across diverse sectors. This encompasses investments in areas such as next-generation energy, social infrastructure, digital transformation, retail, healthcare, and agriculture, leveraging the extensive resources and industry expertise of its parent conglomerate to foster growth and market penetration for its portfolio companies.

Sumisho Venture Partners was formally launched in April 2022, emerging from Sumitomo Corporation's long-standing global venture capital activities, which include CVCs previously set up in the United States, China, Israel, and the United Kingdom since 1998. The establishment of this dedicated domestic entity, spearheaded by President and CEO Hidehiro Yamaki and Senior Associate Shogo Minami, responded to a recognized need for direct startup investment within the evolving Japanese market. The core insight was to create a CVC that uniquely combines investment acumen with proactive business development support, distinguishing itself through an integrated trading company approach.

Sumitomo Ventures targets innovative startups from seed to Series A stages and beyond, providing not just capital but also acting as a "business producer."
