Shell Foundation is a philanthropic organization focused on enabling millions in Africa and Asia to increase incomes through clean energy solutions. Established in 2000, Shell Foundation launched as an independent charity with a $256 million endowment from Shell. Kurt Hoffman served as its inaugural Director, helping form its Board of Trustees. The organization swiftly evolved by 2003, transitioning from a traditional charitable model to an enterprise-based approach emphasizing scalable commercial solutions.

The foundation's initiatives primarily benefit low-income populations across Africa and Asia, with a specific focus on smallholder farmers, transporters, and micro-entrepreneurs.
