At PeerDB, we are building a fast, simple and the most cost effective way to stream data from Postgres to Data Warehouses, Queues and Storage engines. If you are running Postgres at the heart of your data-stack and move data at scale from Postgres to any of the above targets, PeerDB can provide value.
We support different modes of streaming - log based (CDC), cursor based (timestamp or integer) and XMIN based. Performance wise, we are 10x faster than existing tools. Features wise, we support native Postgres features such as comprehensive set of data-types incl. jsonb/arrays/postgis, efficiently streaming toast columns, schema changes and so on.
PeerDB is a specialized ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) platform focused on providing the fastest, most reliable, and cost-effective data replication and streaming solutions specifically for PostgreSQL databases. It enables seamless, real-time data movement from Postgres to data warehouses, queues, and storage engines, with a strong emphasis on performance, data freshness, and developer-friendly SQL interfaces. PeerDB primarily serves data engineers and technology companies that rely heavily on Postgres as their core database, addressing the critical need for efficient data integration to support AI analytics and large-scale data operations. Since its founding in 2023, PeerDB has gained rapid traction, notably with its ClickHouse connector becoming the fastest-growing among major data warehouse integrations, surpassing competitors like Snowflake and BigQuery[1][3][4][5].
PeerDB was founded in 2023 by two engineers, including Sai Krishna Srirampur, who previously worked on Microsoft Azureโs PostgreSQL service and Citus Data. Their firsthand experience with the limitations of existing ETL tools for Postgres inspired them to build a product laser-focused on optimizing Postgres data movement. The founders identified a gap where incumbent ETL tools were slow, unreliable, and not tailored for Postgresโ unique architecture, especially at scale. Early on, PeerDB differentiated itself by implementing native Postgres optimizations such as parallel snapshotting and advanced change data capture (CDC), enabling terabyte-scale data syncs in minutes rather than days. The company quickly attracted attention and funding, raising $3.6 million in seed capital before being acquired by ClickHouse in mid-2024, which expanded PeerDBโs reach and accelerated its growth[1][4][5].
PeerDB rides the growing trend of Postgres becoming the de facto primary database for enterprises and SMBs worldwide, driven by its open-source nature, extensibility, and robust feature set. The timing is critical as the explosion of AI and hyperscale analytics demands efficient, real-time data pipelines from operational databases like Postgres to analytical platforms. Traditional ETL tools often falter at scale or lack native Postgres support, creating a market opportunity for specialized solutions like PeerDB. By focusing on Postgres-native optimizations and real-time CDC, PeerDB not only accelerates data workflows but also enhances data quality and freshness, enabling faster, more reliable AI-driven insights. Its acquisition by ClickHouse further integrates it into the real-time analytics ecosystem, amplifying its influence on how modern data stacks evolve[1][4][5].
Looking ahead, PeerDB is poised to deepen its specialization in Postgres data movement while expanding its SQL interface to become a standard for ETL/ELT workflows. As data volumes continue to grow and AI applications demand ever-fresher data, PeerDBโs real-time, cost-efficient replication capabilities will become increasingly vital. Its integration with ClickHouse positions it well to capture a larger share of the analytics market, potentially expanding support to other data stores and enriching its feature set. The companyโs focus on quality, developer experience, and native optimizations suggests it will remain a key innovator in the data integration space, shaping how enterprises manage and leverage Postgres data in the AI era[1][3][5].
