Ngāti Hineuru

Ngāti Hineuru, operating through the Hineuru Iwi Trust, functions as the collective entity responsible for the cultural, social, and economic advancement of its tribal members. The Trust strategically manages tribal assets and implements programs designed to uplift its whānau, encompassing initiatives like educational scholarships, health services such as flu vaccination drives, and commercial ventures including the development of local enterprises like the Tarawera Café. The Hineuru Iwi Trust emerged from the ancestral foundations of the Ngāti Hineuru iwi, formalizing its structure to effectively manage resources and opportunities, particularly following a significant Treaty of Waitangi settlement.
