NATS

NATS provides an open-source, high-performance messaging system, acting as a real-time communication fabric for distributed applications. This message-oriented middleware unifies messaging, streaming, and state across cloud and edge compute. It facilitates data exchange via publish-subscribe and request-reply, offering quality-of-service from at-most-once to persistent at-least-once or exactly-once delivery via JetStream.

Derek Collison, a distributed systems veteran, created NATS in 2011. His insight was the need for a messaging system prioritizing simplicity and extreme performance for modern architectures. Collison applied his background in robust messaging technologies, notably from TIBCO, to launch this foundational open-source project.

NATS serves diverse distributed applications and microservices, enabling real-time data flow across public clouds and on-premises infrastructure. Its vision centers on being the foundational communication layer, empowering developers to construct highly scalable and resilient systems.
