Portico ensures long-term preservation of scholarly content. Ithaka S+R provides strategic research and consulting to academic institutions, offering guidance on critical challenges and opportunities within the higher education landscape.

ITHAKA's origins trace to Kevin Guthrie, who founded JSTOR in 1995 and subsequently Ithaka in 2004. Recognizing the necessity for an integrated academic resource infrastructure, Guthrie, an experienced technology leader with a background in non-profit management, orchestrated their merger in 2009. He continues as president, guiding the combined entity to fulfill its mission in the evolving educational landscape.

ITHAKA serves academic institutions, libraries, and researchers globally, enhancing knowledge accessibility, affordability, and effectiveness. It actively removes learning barriers and preserves intellectual heritage for future generations.
