Ilion Water Technologies, based in Paris, Île-de-France, France, develops pressure-free desalination technology utilizing patented nanofluidics to challenge traditional high-pressure reverse osmosis systems. A spin-off from the Physics Laboratory at École Normale Supérieure (ENS-PSL), the deeptech startup aims to reduce the cost and complexity of treating saline water, addressing the global water crisis. The company recently closed a €3.8 million pre-seed funding round, co-led by Demea Sustainable Investment and Critical Path Ventures, which included €1.3 million in non-dilutive grants from institutions like Bpifrance and the European Research Council. Ilion was also a winner of i-Lab 2024 and the Pollutec Innovation Challenge. It was incorporated in February 2025 by co-founders Dr. Lucie Ries, who serves as CEO, and Zacharie Pilo.
