HSBC India is a premium banking institution offering comprehensive financial services to corporate, commercial, and retail customers, based in Mumbai, India. The bank provides global banking and markets services, commercial banking solutions for SMEs and multinational corporations, wealth management, and personal banking products, including premier and non-resident Indian segments. Operating from 26 branches across 14 Indian cities, HSBC India plans to expand to approximately 46 branches following Reserve Bank of India approval in January 2025. The institution has been instrumental in modernizing Indian banking, notably introducing the country's first ATM in 1987 and executing pioneering blockchain-based trade finance transactions. Hitendra Dave serves as the current CEO, leading the organization which traces its Indian operations to the 1853 establishment of the Mercantile Bank of India, later acquired by HSBC, with HSBC's first independent Indian branch opening in Kolkata in 1867 by founder Thomas Sutherland.
