Grupo Carso is a Mexican conglomerate based in Mexico City, operating in retail, industry, infrastructure, construction, real estate, and telecommunications. The publicly traded holding company acquires and manages controlling stakes in diverse enterprises, with a portfolio including major Mexican brands like Sanborns and Sears México, alongside significant interests in Telmex and a partnership with Philip Morris via Cigatam. In 1995, the group reported 41,525 employees and sales of 17.87 billion pesos (US$2.34 billion). The organization's name, "Carso," is a portmanteau of its founder Carlos Slim Helú and his wife Soumaya Domit de Slim. Founded in 1980 as Grupo Galas, and renamed Grupo Carso in 1990, its roots stem from Carlos Slim Helú's 1965 investments.
