GNA Biosolutions is a Martinsried, Germany-based biotechnology company that develops ultrafast nucleic acid-based diagnostics for near-patient and point-of-care infectious disease testing. The organization utilizes proprietary Pulse Controlled Amplification technology to manufacture molecular diagnostic instruments and assays, including the Pharos and Octea devices, which deliver rapid results as an alternative to traditional PCR testing. Operating with a core team of 13 employees, the enterprise achieved regulatory approval in Germany for its Octea SARS-CoV-2 systems and participated in a €72 million funding pool provided by the Innovative Medicines Initiative. Following early financial backing from investors such as UVC Partners, the business was fully acquired by Hewlett Packard in February 2021. GNA Biosolutions was originally spun out from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich Institute for Photonics and Optoelectronics in 2010 by co-founders Federico Bürsgens and Joachim.
