The foundation's leadership and board of directors include prominent technology executives such as former GitLab Chief Executive Officer Sid Sijbrandij and Platzi founder and Chief Executive Officer Freddy Vega. The GitLab Foundation was officially established in September 2022 by the enterprise software company GitLab Inc.
