Genesis Community Loan Fund provides capital and strategic guidance, connecting investors with community development initiatives. It offers flexible, risk-tolerant loan financing and technical assistance to create affordable housing, community facilities, and opportunities. This approach supports projects typically overlooked by conventional finance, addressing critical gaps in traditional lending for community-focused efforts.

Founded in 1992, the fund emerged from concerned individuals and six Midcoast Maine congregations. Witnessing severe housing insecurity, these founders identified a critical capital gap for community solutions. This insight propelled Genesis's formation, initiating a unique lending model designed to address these pressing needs. Beth McPherson served as its founding executive, instrumental in early development.

Genesis partners with nonprofit organizations, community groups, and resident-owned cooperatives across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Its vision is to foster resilient, equitable communities by ensuring access to resources and stable housing. The fund continuously refines its financial tools and support systems, empowering local initiatives and overcoming persistent development challenges to build a stronger future.
