Founded in June 2014 by Tobias Schubert and Roman Hartmann, Farmy is a Zürich, Switzerland-based online marketplace connecting consumers with over 1,000 local food producers. The direct-to-consumer e-commerce platform bypasses traditional wholesalers to deliver fresh organic groceries, including meat and dairy, directly to customers using a dedicated fleet of electric vans. This sustainable business model reduces CO2 emissions and food waste while ensuring fair margins for regional farmers and providing ethical products to Swiss shoppers. Backed by notable investors like Triodos Organic Growth Fund and Dominique Locher, the company reached a peak annual revenue of CHF 24 million during the pandemic and secured CHF 10,500,000 in early 2023 for German expansion. Despite reaching profitability in its ninth year, post-pandemic sales drops led to the grocery platform being acquired by the regional wholesaler Pico for CHF 100,000 in 2024.
