EssentVentures is a New York City-based independent media and commerce company that operates consumer brands across print magazines, digital media, television specials, books, and live event platforms. The organization was established to acquire the historic media property Essence Communications from Time Inc., creating an independent, African-American-owned enterprise focused on merging content with community and commerce. The company's diverse portfolio reaches a global audience of more than 16 million users across its various media channels, video networks, and social media platforms. Furthermore, the firm manages and operates large-scale experiential properties, most notably the annual Essence Festival, which consistently attracts over 450,000 attendees to its live events each year. EssentVentures was founded in 2018 by Richelieu Dennis, the Liberian-American entrepreneur who previously established the personal care brand SheaMoisture, with Michelle Ebanks serving as the company's President.
