Censorship resistant democracies.
Key people at Democracy Earth.
Democracy Earth was founded in 2015 by Guido Vilariño (Founder) and Santiago Siri (Founder/President) and Pia Mancini (Founder).
Our mission is to build a sustainable democracy for the Information Age. We create censorship resistant, free and open source software that can deploy democracies anywhere there's an internet connection. We have implemented governance infrastructure for crypto networks; shadow referendums for activists in critical countries and the first Quadratic Voting implementation in the USA for the Colorado Legislative House.
Backed by Templeton Foundation (2019), Y Combinator (2015) and Fast Forward (2016). Presented on TED Global (2014). Awarded by MIT Technology Review (2017) and Singularity University (2016). We did research for Alphabet, World Economic Forum and the University of Berkeley.

Key people at Democracy Earth.
Democracy Earth is a nonprofit organization that builds censorship-resistant, open-source software designed to enable digital democracies anywhere with internet access. Its mission is to create a sustainable democracy for the Information Age by leveraging blockchain technology to ensure transparent, incorruptible voting and governance. The foundation’s software supports governance infrastructure for crypto networks, activist shadow referendums, and innovative voting methods like Quadratic Voting, serving governments, organizations, and activist communities globally. This positions Democracy Earth at the intersection of crypto, web3, and civic technology, influencing the startup ecosystem by pioneering decentralized governance tools that empower digital participation and political transparency[1][2][3][4].
Founded in 2015 by Pia Mancini, Santiago Siri, and Guido Vilariño, Democracy Earth evolved from the political initiative "Partido de la Red" (The Net Party) in Argentina, which sought to create a political party committed to direct citizen participation through the internet. The founders, with backgrounds in politics and technology, launched Democracy Earth to address political corruption and lack of transparency by building blockchain-based voting platforms. Early traction included capturing over 1% of votes in Argentina’s elections and developing DemocracyOS, a pioneering open-source online voting system. The organization gained recognition through backing by Y Combinator (2015), the Templeton Foundation (2019), and Fast Forward (2016), as well as awards from MIT Technology Review and Singularity University[1][3][4].
Democracy Earth rides the wave of blockchain and web3 technologies transforming governance and democratic participation. The timing is critical as digital transformation demands more transparent, inclusive, and censorship-resistant political systems. Market forces such as rising distrust in traditional institutions, demand for digital identity solutions, and the growth of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) favor Democracy Earth’s mission. Its tools influence the broader ecosystem by demonstrating how decentralized governance can be implemented at scale, inspiring new models of political engagement and digital sovereignty worldwide[1][3][4][6].
Looking ahead, Democracy Earth is poised to expand its impact by integrating emerging blockchain innovations like Proof of Humanity and Universal Basic Income into its governance frameworks. Trends such as increased adoption of decentralized identity, growing demand for digital civic participation, and regulatory interest in transparent voting systems will shape its trajectory. As digital democracies gain traction, Democracy Earth’s influence may evolve from a niche crypto governance tool to a foundational platform for global democratic infrastructure, reinforcing its vision of sustainable, censorship-resistant democracy for the Information Age[6][1].
