Founded in 2017 by Clare Wareing and Alan Wise, Cumulus Oncology is based in Edinburgh and identifies, derisks, and commercializes novel oncology assets from academic and commercial sources. The biotechnology company utilizes a platform agnostic approach focused on precision medicine to create spinout ventures that develop anticancer therapies for patient subgroups unresponsive to existing treatments. Its growing portfolio of targeted spinout companies includes Nodus Oncology, which focuses on DNA damage response research, and Modulus Oncology, launched in partnership with the University of Sheffield. To fund this drug discovery and development pipeline, the firm scaled its internal operations to twenty employees and secured a major investment round led by Eos Advisory in 2022. This recent financing of over four million pounds builds upon an earlier funding phase, including vital financial backing from institutional investors like Scottish Enterprise.
