Based in Helsinki, Finland, CreateTrips was a mobile travel planning application that allowed users to build personalized offline itineraries and access user-generated destination guides. The platform enabled independent travel bloggers and commercial companies to create and monetize digital guidebooks, known as TravelBooks, which included offline maps and sold for retail prices starting at €3.59. Before permanently ceasing its operations in July 2016 due to internal disagreements over future product development, the mobile application had successfully accumulated tens of thousands of active users across global markets. The startup raised a total of $1.4 million in venture capital, including a $600,000 seed round in June 2014 and an $800,000 follow-on investment in March 2015, with backing from investment firms Butterfly Ventures, Frontier, and Rkapital.
