Developed pHin, a smart water monitor for pools and hot tubs, continuously tracking water chemistry and guiding maintenance.
Silicon Valley-based ConnectedYard developed pHin, a smart water monitoring system that floats in residential pools and hot tubs to continuously track chemical levels and temperature. The floating hardware device transmitted real-time data to a companion mobile application, which provided users with precise maintenance alerts and guidance for adding water care chemicals. The company monetized its technology through hardware sales and an optional subscription service that delivered pre-packaged, color-coded chemical pods directly to residential customers. After securing $7 million in total venture funding from corporate investors including Lonza, the startup was acquired by pool equipment manufacturer Hayward Industries in April 2018. Following the acquisition, the product line operated as a separate entity before Hayward Industries officially discontinued the device and its associated services in December 2021. ConnectedYard was founded in 2015 by Justin Miller and Mark Janes.
