Based in Lyon, France, Allergen Alert develops a portable, battery-operated device that detects food allergens in minutes using a specialized single-use sample pouch. The pocket-sized diagnostic tool replicates laboratory precision to help individuals with severe allergies, celiac disease patients, catering professionals, and healthcare sectors safely test their prepared meals on the spot. The deeptech startup recently secured €3.6 million in seed funding through a financing round led by venture capital firm DEMETER, corporate investor bioMérieux, and public investment bank Bpifrance. After unveiling the initial hardware at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the company plans to expand its testing capabilities from milk and gluten to cover nine major food allergens by 2028. Allergen Alert was founded in 2024 by Bénédicte Astier and Antoine Burgaud as a direct spin-off from the bioMérieux intrapreneurship program.
