Key people at Ag-West Bio.
Ag-West Bio functions as Saskatchewan’s bioscience industry association and a catalyst for its bioeconomy, providing leadership to advance research commercialization within the agri-food sector. The organization supports a broad spectrum of biological applications, encompassing agriculture, environmental solutions, industrial processes, energy, and bioprocessing, alongside nutrition and health initiatives. It helps accelerate the transition of innovative scientific discoveries into viable market products and services.
The entity was initially launched in 1989 as Ag-West Biotech by Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Agriculture. This creation stemmed from an understanding in the 1980s that a dedicated catalyst was essential to foster the province’s burgeoning ag-biotech sector. Over time, the organization evolved through amalgamations, integrating the International Centre for Agricultural Science & Technology in 1997, and subsequently merging with Bio-Products Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Nutraceutical Network in 2004, forming the present Ag-West Bio.
Ag-West Bio serves a diverse membership that includes public research institutions, private companies ranging from startups to multinationals, and various research service and economic development groups. The organization assists entrepreneurs by offering guidance, fostering investment readiness, and providing a Technology Commercialization Fund for nascent enterprises. Its long-term vision positions Saskatchewan as a global leader in agricultural bioscience innovation, driving commercialization and enabling growth for companies in the field.
