42dot is a Seongnam City, South Korea-based technology company that develops lidar-free autonomous driving software and transportation-as-a-service platforms for urban mobility. Prior to its acquisition, the company reached a valuation of approximately $461 million and raised nearly $130 million in venture funding while growing its workforce to 200 employees. Early backers of the autonomous vehicle developer included Shinhan Capital, Lotte Rental, and LIG Nex1. In 2022, the business was fully acquired for roughly $320 million by Hyundai Motor Group to lead its global software-defined vehicle initiatives. Following the buyout, the subsidiary secured an additional $790 million corporate investment from parent company Hyundai and its affiliate Kia to accelerate the commercialization of its mobility operating systems. 42dot was founded in 2019 by Chang-Hyeon Song.
