1440 Foundation

The 1440 Foundation is a Saratoga, California-based private grantmaking organization that provides funding to nonprofit entities focused on healthcare resilience, inner wellbeing, and community building. Operating through an invitation-only model, the philanthropic entity proactively identifies and allocates capital to aligned organizations rather than accepting unsolicited applications. The foundation manages total endowment assets of $226,837,472 and distributed $2,145,162 in annual giving during 2023, with an average grant size of approximately $1,072,581. To date, the organization has supported more than 250 nonprofits across the United States, directing capital toward initiatives such as psychedelic medicine research and the Canopy Cancer Collective. The foundation's leadership team includes Treasurer Ken Baker and draws on the executive experience of its co-founder, who previously served as the chief executive officer of Juniper Networks. The 1440 Foundation was founded in 2010 by Joanie Kriens and Scott Kriens.
